BREATHE YOUR WAY INTO DANCE WORKSHOPS

SATURDAYS FEBRUARY 8 and MARCH 8 / 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM / YALDA YOUNES

I once heard my yoga philosophy teacher, Nrithya Jagannatha, saying that the only other way of experiencing the elevated state of “samadhi” which every yogi aspires to, but very few are able to reach in one lifetime, is through art, and particularly music and dance. Nrithya drew that conclusion from her own personal experience, as she is also an accomplished
Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher.
Being a flamenco dancer, it is precisely the repeated taste of “samadhi” and the aspiration to it, that has always kept me going despite the difficulties related to that choice of career. It is an inspired state where the mind is calm and detached, the physical body becomes one with the spirit and the consciousness floats in pure bliss.

This workshop is for yoga practitioners who want to investigate a different path to dance or dancers who want to use yoga tools to enhance their experience.
We will start with an asana practice followed by a long pranayama flow, before setting into an
alternative form of meditation: the infinitely small and still movement of the flamenco dance.~ Yalda Younes

YALDA YOUNES BIO
After cinema studies followed by a flamenco dance training in Spain, Yalda has been teaching flamenco for more than 13 years which led her to develop her own particular teaching method. Constantly experimenting into new territories, inspired by the 5 elements of nature and digging into her own light and darkness, she encourages
her students to adopt a truthful and personal approach to their practice. Her interest in yoga grew after having suffered dance injuries, as her practice helped her recover and revealed to her the emotional and mental shadows or blockages behind physical injuries, and the healing power of yoga on every aspect of our lives.
In January 2014, she decided to start teaching yoga driven by the same instinct that got her to start teaching flamenco in 2000: the need to share with others what she experiences as gifts from life. She is in love with teaching and is grateful to her students for offering her the opportunity to be constantly learning from and with them.
